How to Bid

IAA AuctionNow®, IAA's bidding and buying platform, is fully digital and lets you participate in live auctions from any internet-connected device at any time. 

• Bid on vehicles in real time as they come up for auction. 
• Click through vehicle details and images as each vehicle is being auctioned. 
• Access auctions from any device — desktop, tablet or mobile. 
• Bid on multiple auctions simultaneously from wherever you are. 

IAA AuctionNow® operates in an automated way, driven by our internal systems. Here's what to look out for during a live auction: 

• The countdown progress bar changes colour from green to yellow to orange to red as the clock ticks down. The "Time Extended" feature automatically restarts the countdown when there is high bidding activity on a vehicle. 
• The "Digital Auction" sound effects can be turned on or off using the volume toggle. This is auction-specific, meaning you can only listen to audio from one auction at a time. Audio must be turned on manually for each auction. 
• "You've been outbid!" will appear if another bidder surpasses your current bid while bidding is still in progress. 
• "RESERVE OFF" displays when the reserve threshold is met or the reserve is lifted. 
• "You Won!" will appear for the winner once bidding has closed. 
• When the highest bid does not meet the reserve, the vehicle is marked as an "If Bid." The orange overlay is only visible to the high bidder; all others will see a grey overlay. The seller can choose to sell at the high bid, send the vehicle to the next auction, or make a counteroffer using IAA Manage Offers™ — a tool that allows sellers and buyers to negotiate on If Bids immediately after the vehicle leaves the auction. 
• "Bidding Closed" will appear for all bidders except the high bidder when bidding has ended for that vehicle. 

Auctions always start at the exact posted time on ca.iaai.com and proceed in order of Run # (starting with 1 and going up). 

When you need a vehicle right away, IAA Buy Now lets you purchase lightly damaged and used vehicles between auctions at a set price with no bidding and no waiting. 

Buy Now differs from live auctions, with no incremental bids and no real-time competition. Simply find a vehicle you want and purchase it outright at the listed price. 

• Buy Now inventory is available every day, including weekends and holidays. 
• Buy Now prices expire at 8 p.m. the day before a vehicle's scheduled live auction. 
• Once you confirm a Buy Now purchase, the vehicle is added to the Won Vehicles tab in your Dashboard. This action finalises the purchase and cannot be canceled. 
• Buyers with Buy Now notifications enabled will be alerted via email or mobile notification when new Buy Now inventory becomes available. 

How to Find Buy Now Vehicles 

Buy Now listings are available across multiple areas of ca.iaai.com: 

• Directly from the homepage under the Auctions dropdown menu. 
• On the Vehicle Search page, by selecting the Buy Now filter. 
• On Vehicle Details Pages, the Buy Now price displays above the current bid.

Timed Auctions let you bid on vehicles over a defined timeline. Enter your maximum bid online and let the system incrementally bid on your behalf up to your set limit. When the countdown ends, you'll know immediately if you've won. 

• Fresh inventory, no reruns. 
• Set your max dollar amount and let the system bid for you incrementally. 
• Bid with precision and always know exactly when each auction ends. 
• Watch the final-hour countdown clock in real time. 
• Receive notifications quickly if you're outbid so you can jump back in. 
• When the reserve is met and the countdown ends, the highest bidder wins. 
• If the reserve is not met when the countdown ends, the highest bidder receives a Buy Now Offer. If declined, the offer is opened to remaining bidders on a first-come, first-served basis. If no one accepts, the vehicle moves to regular Buy Now. 

Can't be at your device when a vehicle goes live? Place a Pre-Bid before the auction begins and let the system bid competitively on your behalf. 

Pre-Bidding is available from the time a vehicle is posted online until the lot opens for live bidding. Once the IAA AuctionNow® action begins and the vehicle is open for bidding, your Pre-Bid will apply competitively until no other bidders remain or your max amount is reached. 

Key Pre-Bid Rules 

• Pre-Bids cannot be removed once placed, but you can edit or modify your amount any time before the vehicle opens for live bidding. The maximum Pre-Bid can only be reduced to the current High Pre-Bid amount. 
• Only the top Pre-Bids will be taken to the auction. Tie Pre-Bids are not allowed. 
• If only one Pre-Bid exists, that bid may deploy at 70% of the tendered amount. 
• When multiple Pre-Bids exist for the same vehicle, the "High Pre-Bid" column on the run list will display the second-highest Pre-Bid plus the standard bidding increment. 
• If your Pre-Bid is higher than the High Pre-Bid, both figures are displayed in green. If your Pre-Bid is lower, both are displayed in red. 
• If any information on the condition report (excluding Run Number and Images) is updated after your Pre-Bid is submitted, your Pre-Bid will be automatically removed and you will be notified by email. 
• All Pre-Bids are rounded to the nearest $25 for bids under $500, to the nearest $50 for bids between $500 and $2,000, and to the nearest $100 for bids over $2,000. 
• Placing a Pre-Bid does not guarantee the vehicle will be awarded to you.
